SA to call elderly for jury duty
AAP
Elderly South Australians will be called for jury duty under proposed new laws aimed at removing age discrimination.
Attorney-General John Rau will introduce legislation on Wednesday allowing people aged over 70 to be called for jury duty but also giving them the option of being excused if they wish.
"Representation of the community is a fundamental tenet of juror selection and this new model will be a more equitable way of sharing jury duty," Minister for Ageing Zoe Bettison says.
