SA releases 10-year housing plan

A $550 million housing and homelessness strategy to create jobs and help more people buy their own home has been unveiled by the South Australian government.

The plan includes $400 million to deliver 1000 new affordable homes by 2025 for low and moderate-income earners.

Another $75 million will be allocated over 10 years to address a backlog in public housing maintenance and more than $70 million will be allocated for social housing and to establish a homeless prevention fund.

The government will also boost support for 10,000 more HomeStart loans which target lower-income earners.

"This strategy will deliver a local jobs bonanza, injecting hundreds of millions into the South Australian economy and providing a real boost to our building and construction industry," Premier Steven Marshall said.

"Our plan is going to give aspiring first-home buyers a foot in the door and an opportunity to live the great Australian dream of owning a home."
