One-year-old boy latest measles case in South Australia
Experts have urged people to get immunisations after another measles case has been confirmed. (9NEWS)
A one-year-old boy is the latest person to contract measles as case numbers of the disease continue to grow in South Australia.
The boy became infected after travelling to Indonesia, SA’s Health Chief Medical Officer Paddy Phillips reported.
The new case follows the confirmation of two other measles-infected women in Gawler earlier this month.
“Immunisation is the best protection against measles and it’s vital that everyone has two doses of the vaccine not only to protect themselves but to protect the wider community," Professor Phillips said.
Professor Phillips urged people to be alert to symptoms of measles and to visit their doctor if unsure.
“Measles is highly contagious and can be airborne, so it is easily spread through coughing and sneezing amongst those who are not immunised."
He said people should look for symptoms that include fever, cough, runny nose, sore eyes and a blotchy rash which starts on the head.
There have been 14 confirmed cases of measles in South Australia this year.
