Lawyer guilty of looting deceased estates

An Adelaide lawyer has been found guilty of more than 30 offences related to stealing about $500,000 from deceased estates.

District Court Judge Michael Boylen handed down his verdict on Tuesday in the trial of Stephen McNamara.

He found him guilty of 10 counts of theft, seven of aggravated theft and 16 of using fabricated evidence.

At the same time, Judge Boylen found McNamara's co-accused Philip John Pitman not guilty on one count of using fabricated evidence.

Asking for McNamara's bail to be revoked, prosecutors said his offending was sustained and deliberate over a three-year period.

Judge Boylen remanded McNamara in custody for sentencing submissions on November 4.
