WHAT THE SENTENCING JUDGE SAID ABOUT THE KILLERS:

Brittney Jade Dwyer:

* She was partly motivated by greed and had an unnatural interest in violence and with seeing people die.

* She will remain a danger to the community and has been diagnosed with a mixed-personality disorder with anti-social traits including problems with depression and rage.

* Dwyer began using drugs from age 14, became involved in drug trafficking and worked as an escort to support her drug use.

* She has a poor capacity to empathise with other people. She may not understand how evil and abhorrent her actions were and may not have the capacity to be contrite.

Bernadette Burns:

* After being born in New Zealand she is likely to be deported upon her release on parole.

* She has acknowledged the enormity of her actions.

* Burns was less culpable than Dwyer and did not intend for Mr Whitwell to die.

* Her personal circumstances, her early guilty plea and her lesser involvement in the killing warranted a shorter sentence.

* She did not have a murderous intent but was willing for Mr Whitwell to suffer harm.

* Her help in planning the robbery, contributed to the elderly man's death.
