A fire at an Adelaide recycling plant is posing a reduced risk but is still burning more than 24 hours after it started.

A reduced threat notice has been issued for the fire and the threat to remain low unless winds pick up, the Metropolitan Fire Service says.

The blaze at the Adelaide Resource Recovery Centre at Wingfield started in the early hours of Tuesday morning

The Environment Protection Authority has been monitoring the blaze and warned people in nearby homes to keep doors and windows closed because of drifting smoke.

Firefighters will review their efforts on Wednesday morning.
