A new Australian science-fiction film will soon be shot in Adelaide.

Screen Australia, the South Australian Film Corporation and Screenwest say they are investing in the production of the dark thriller, titled Mother.

The film is about a teenage girl, who is the first of a new generation of humans to be raised by a robot designed to repopulate earth after human extinction.

The bond between the girl and robot is challenged when a blood-drenched woman arrives at the pair's bunker, begging for help.

The plot is an original concept from the film's Western Australian director Grant Sputore, who is making his feature debut, and writer Michael Lloyd Green.

Rising star Clara Rugaard has been cast in the lead role as the teenage girl and casting is underway for the other two roles.

Filming will soon begin at Adelaide Studios and post and visual effects will also take place in SA.
