Assault case against two SA cops may move

An assault case against two serving South Australian policemen may be transferred from an Adelaide court to Whyalla.

Sean Gregory Hobbs, 30, and Andrew Allan Jaunay, 46, appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday where a prosecutor asked for the change of jurisdiction to reflect where the alleged offence occurred.

Defence counsel told the court that the request had taken them by surprise and the issue will be discussed at the next hearing in Adelaide in February.

The officers have both been charged over an incident in Whyalla in 2013 which was investigated by the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption and involved an alleged assault of a 17-year-old.

At a previous hearing, counsel for Hobbs criticised the length of time it had taken to bring the allegations to court, saying the matter had been with the Director of Public Prosecutions for two years.

Hobbs has been charged with one count of aggravated assault causing harm and Jaunay with one count of aggravated assault.

Their case will return to court on February 20.
