Former NSW detectives Roger Rogerson and Glen McNamara are due to back in court on Thursday accused over the execution-style murder of a university student.

The body of Jamie Gao, 20, was found about three kilometres off Cronulla in June.

He was allegedly shot twice in a storage unit in Padstow, wrapped in a tarpaulin and dumped at sea.

During earlier court appearances it has been alleged Rogerson, 73, and McNamara, 55, began planning Mr Gao's murder after negotiating an "ice" deal with him.

The pair have also been charged with drug supply.
