Hundreds of RAM 'pickup trucks' recalled over fears of fuel pump failure

Hundreds of RAM utes have been recalled across Australia over fears a defect in the vehicle's fuel pump could cause them to lose power.

Around 437 RAM trucks have been recalled, with the issue specifically concerning the 1500 DS diesel model produced between 2014 and 2019.

A manufacturing defect in the ute's high-pressure fuel pump means the unit could fail prematurely, sending debris into the vehicle's fuel system.

If this were to occur, the supply of fuel to the engine could be interrupted and the ute could suffer a loss of power while driving.

"A loss of power whilst driving could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders," the recall states.

RAM Trucks Australia has advised that when parts become available, it will contact affected owners in writing to have repairs conducted free of charge.
