Rain, storms and flooding threaten multiple states

Severe weather warnings have been issued for parts of central and eastern Australia as rain and thunderstorms spread over multiple states from Tuesday.
The combination of a low-pressure system and tropical moisture dragged from the north is powering the damp conditions which are forecast to last until mid-week, reports Weatherzone.

On Monday heavy rain fell over South Australia and Tasmania, and is now moving east, with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing severe weather warnings for parts of NSW and Victoria.
Damaging winds and heavy rain are forecast to impact the Snowy Mountains and South West Slopes in NSW, while similar conditions are expected in the Victorian Gippsland region.
A flood watch is also in place for parts of north-west, central and north-east Victoria, where minor to moderate flooding is possible from Tuesday.
Forecasters warn severe thunderstorms may develop over a broad corridor, from northern Victoria up through western NSW and into southern Queensland on Tuesday.
Falls of 10mm to 30mm are likely, but the ranges in southern NSW and north-east Victoria are set for 50mm to 100mm over coming hours.
Marine wind warnings have also been issued by the bureau for the Adelaide area, the Macquarie, Hunter and Eden coasts in NSW and Victoria’s East Gippsland coast.
The wet weather will begin moving off the east coast and towards the Tasman Sea from Wednesday.
Forecasters says thunderstorm activity will occur behind the initial rain band due to unstable atmospheric conditions.
“This means some areas may see a period of persistent rain followed by potentially severe thunderstorm activity.”
Eastern Australia should be in for drier and calmer weather from Thursday.
