Crocodile that attacked 22-year-old man at Cape York euthanised

A crocodile that attacked a man in Cape York has been euthanised by wildlife officers.

The 3.6-metre crocodile bit a 22-year-old man at Vyce's Crossing in Weipa on January 31 and was unable to be spotted soon after the attack.

The man survived the attack with deep lacerations to his hand.

Queensland Environment wildlife officers set traps for the crocodile, capturing it on February 6 about 50 metres away from where the attack occurred.

Officers noted that the crocodile was in poor condition and a decision was made to euthanise the animal.

Visitors at Vyce's Crossing are reminded to be aware of crocodiles at all times.

"Be vigilant and remember crocs can be in the water where you can't see them," Queensland Environment advised.

Earlier this week officers captured a smaller crocodile that bit the head of a swimmer at Lake Placid.

That crocodile was deemed to be in good condition and was re-homed.
