Hunt for crocodile continues after second man attacked in Far North Queensland

Authorities are still hunting for a crocodile that attacked a man in Far North Queensland.

The attack happened in Weipa on Sunday - less than a week after another man managed to pry a croc's jaws of his head after he was attacked in Cairns.

Queensland Environment said members are looking for the croc but have so far not found it.

"Wildlife officers conducted a site assessment last night at Vyce's Crossing in Weipa and did not sight the crocodile responsible for attacking a man on Sunday," they said.

"The search will continue this afternoon and tonight."

Last week, a man pried a crocodile's jaws off his head in Cairns.

The 44-year-old man was swimming at Lake Placid when he was attacked by the crocodile, telling paramedics later he felt the animal's jaws clamp around his head.

He managed to pry the animal's jaws off his head and then had a "considerable swim" to the bank where other people called emergency services.

Queensland ambulance paramedics treated him for multiple minor cuts, before taking him to Cairns Hospital.

Critical care paramedic Paul Sweeney said the man was "remarkably calm" when they arrived.

Queensland Environment said on Twitter they had caught the croc they believed attacked that man and moved it to a crocodile farm.

"Wildlife officers have captured a 2.5m crocodile believed to be responsible for an attack at Lake Placid which occurred last week. DES set a trap in order capture the animal," they said on twitter.

"Members of the public are reminded to be Crocwise in the area."
