‘World-class’ Brisbane 2032 Victoria Park plan revealed
The Queensland government has unveiled the biggest glimpse yet of Brisbane’s Olympic future, but there’s still no price tag on some of its major promises or confirmation they’ll be ready on time.

Months after locking in the $3.8 billion stadium, the missing face of Brisbane’s Olympic heart has finally been revealed.
A masterplan will transform Victoria Park into one giant sporting and entertainment precinct.
Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson said it would be a “world-class stadium” in a “world-class precinct”.
Two new pedestrian bridges become the spine of the Games, crossing the city’s busiest arterial road, the Inner City Bypass.
They link Brisbane Stadium with the National Aquatic Centre and will funnel thousands of spectators through to Exhibition Station and the Brisbane Showgrounds, which will be reborn as the athlete’s village.
“Importantly after the games finish, we will be part of the state’s premier sporting events and leisure precincts, so that’s really exciting for the RNA to be part of that,” Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland showgrounds chief executive Brendan Christou said.

ARUP Project Director Penny Hall said it was “hugely around the legacy beyond ’32 for Brisbane and all of Queensland”.
The precinct will be an inner-city oasis, preserving two-thirds of Victoria Park as public green space.
Old sporting fields will become an expanded York’s Hollow watering hole, with larger wetlands, walking trails, open parkland and a world-class athletics track.
The pictures are polished, but the bill is still a work in progress.
The bridges and expanded parkland all sit outside the promised $7.1 billon venue infrastructure envelope.
For now, Queenslanders are being given no idea on the precinct price tag and no detail on how construction over the Inner City Bypass will work.

“It’s a diverse range of connections we are looking at,” Aul said.
“I think we have to let the process happen.”
Critics aren’t convinced, arguing Queenslanders are being asked to embrace the vision before knowing how much it will cost taxpayers.
“The number one question that Queenslanders want answered is how much will Games venues cost, and how much will Games infrastructure cost,” Deputy Opposition Leader Cameron Dick said.
Locals won’t be getting that information until after public consultation, which opens tomorrow and runs for the next two months.

Sue Bremner from Save Victoria Park, which protested again development of the green space, called it “just window dressing so they can say, ‘Yes we held a consultation’“.
Despite doubts from industry insiders the government insists it can deliver world-class venues, lasting legacy and stay within budget.
And if Brisbane has learnt anything from Expo 88 it’s that legacy can never be judged before the first sod is turned.
“I think we are all going to be surprised and delighted by how wonderful this precinct is,“Expo 88 stakeholder Lady Jane Edwards said.
A 9News poll showed Queenslanders were not convinced.
Asked if they were confident the Queensland government was on the right track to deliver a world-class 2032 Olympic Games, only 31 per cent answered “yes”
