The Queensland government has faced scrutiny after refusing to extend trading hours for pubs and clubs across the state for the FIFA World Cup.

The state’s nightlife commissioner and former Powderfinger bassist John Collins and the Queensland Hotels Association (QHA) called the rules the worst in the country after barely any venues were open to watch the USA vs Socceroos clash this morning.

The QHA Chief Executive Bernie Hogan said that the state government had dropped the golden opportunity to set the standard for the rest of the nation ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
The call from Collins and the QHA comes as NSW government granted unrestricted trading hours across the state for the duration of the five-and-a-half week football tournament.
