Queensland's "no body, no parole" laws have been slammed by a victim's family as a mockery.

Just 29 months after being sentenced to eight years in prison, Daniel Paul Heazlewood is about to be set free.

In 2009 he strangled his own mother, Linda Sidon, at a Gold Coast apartment, when she came at him with a knife.

Two days later, realising she was dead, he panicked.

Heazlewood purchased a shovel and a bag of lime at Bunnings.

He then drove her body to the Gold Coast Hinterland and buried her body in the scrub.

For 18 months no one realised she was missing.

Initial police investigations came up empty, when Heazlewood was questioned he said his mother went back to New Zealand.

The case went cold but in 2015, a new police investigation was launched and uncovered new evidence.

That's when he eventually confessed, and he took police to where he believed the body was but to this day nothing has been found.

He pleaded guilty to the less charge of manslaughter.

Heazlewood lied for years about what happened to his mother. 9News

Linda Sidon's sister, Pam Mclaren is outraged, saying it's "just making a mockery of the law".

"I personally think it's disgusting the law was written to protect victims," Ms Mclaren said.

Bill Potts, of Potts Lawyers, said technically parole can be granted with no body.

"All a person has to do is demonstrate they have co-operated to the highest degree possible to try and find the body," Mr Potts said.

He could be released as early as November 23.
