Qld must fight education cuts: Jones

Queenslanders should fight against changes to education funding at the next federal election, the state's education minister says.

Kate Jones claims proposed changes to federal funding after 2017 will mean her state misses out on $6 billion it had been expecting.

"This is a hidden trick in the budget that will see $6 billion cut from Queensland schools," she said.

"I want every Queenslander to make these cuts an election issue going into the federal election."

The minister said federal funding would be tied to inflation, but education costs rose more quickly than CPI.

Ms Jones promised to keep Labor's election commitment to employ 100 extra teachers, but warned that school speech and drama, music and sports programs might have to be cut.

The next federal election will held before February 2017.
