A Cairns father charged with using cannabis oil to treat his cancer-stricken daughter will be allowed to see the girl under new bail conditions.

The 30-year-old man faced Brisbane's Magistrates Court on Friday charged with supplying dangerous drugs to a minor after he was arrested this month outside the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital, where his two-year-old daughter was being treated for neuroblastoma cancer.

It's alleged the man had given the girl cannabis oil in her food in the hope of aiding her treatment.

Originally prohibited from making contact with his daughter, the man successfully had his bail conditions altered during a brief mention of the case.

The man can now visit the girl but only under supervision.

A small crowd of medical cannabis advocates held a rally outside the court, with the man expressing his thanks for their support.

The girl remains in hospital, where she has received chemotherapy and her condition is believed to have improved since that treatment began.

Under his bail conditions, the man can visit his daughter only when a medical practitioner is present.

He is not allowed to contact the girl's mother, other than to organise visitation.

The matter has been adjourned until February 23.
