Mother’s heartbreak after daughter allegedly murdered in Slacks Creek

The heartbroken mother of a young woman allegedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend in Brisbane’s south has paid tribute to her daughter.

Djuarn Baker-Adams, known to loved ones as “DJ”, was killed at a home in Slacks Creek early on Wednesday morning, just weeks after celebrating her 27th birthday.

Her ex-partner Ronald Arthur Clarence Cora, who was a rapper under the name MC Triks, has been charged with domestic violence murder.

The tragedy unfolded just two weeks after police allege Baker-Adams had reached out to authorities expressing concerns for her safety.

Speaking through tears, her mother, Patrice, described her daughter as an artistic young woman about to begin a university degree to become a youth worker.

“She was a very caring, loving, beautiful young lady, she had a family that loved her,” Patrice said.

“She was the type of friend that would help anybody out if you needed help at one o’clock in the morning, she was there.”

Patrice said receiving the news of her daughter’s death was her worst fear realised.

“I never ever wanted to get that knock at the front door, and that day came yesterday, that was my worst nightmare,” she said.

“She did all the right steps, but it didn’t work. It didn’t save her life.

“When you’re in it, it’s not that easy to just get out. You need help and support and protection.

“It’s just so sad to think that the system didn’t give her that love and care back when she needed it.”

Cora’s matter was heard in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.

He made no application for bail, and the case has been adjourned to the Beenleigh Magistrates Court later this month.
