More than 80 bushfires blazing across Qld

THE QUEENSLAND BUSHFIRE EMERGENCY:

Authorities say this is the worst start to the Queensland bushfire season in recorded history.

WHAT IS STARTING THEM?

* Some of them have been deliberately lit.

* Police have set up a special task force to investigate eight fires as the state reels from days of property damage and displacement - which is set to continue into the weekend.

* The eight fires are in Brisbane, Stanthorpe, the southeast and central Queensland regions.

WHERE ARE THE MAJOR FIRES ON TUESDAY?

* On Tuesday afternoon, more than 80 fires were burning from the southeast corner to the Cairns hinterland.

* The worst fire was on the Sunshine Coast, where an emergency warning for residents from Peregian Beach, Peregian Breeze Estate, Marcus Beach and Weyba remained on Tuesday evening.

* Fires are still burning on the Granite Belt around Stanthorpe, Applethorpe and Ballandean but aren't directly threatening properties.

* The Gold Coast hinterland fire is contained but still burning.

WHAT'S THE DAMAGE SO FAR?

* There have been no fatalities.

* Queensland Fire and Emergency Services have confirmed two homes have been destroyed by the Peregian fire.

* The Stanthorpe fire, which takes in the Applethorpe fire, has destroyed eight structures, including three homes and water tanks.

* Eight homes were obliterated at Sarabah and the heritage-listed Binna Burra Lodge has been seriously damaged.

* That fire could burn for weeks or longer before much-needed rain puts it out.

* Further north, one house was razed to the ground in a very fast grassfire near Mareeba on Thursday.

* The damage tally is likely to rise once fire-ravaged areas are checked.

WHAT'S THE OUTLOOK?

* The Bureau of Meteorology expects the fire danger to drop to 'high' across much of the state on Wednesday and Thursday due to more moderate winds and higher humidity.
