Morcombes launch new tool for child safety

Bruce and Denise Morcombe are hoping a new child safety app will let parents afford their kids more freedom.

The "Amego" app, developed by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and a local development company, works by sending an immediate notification to a parent's phone if their child doesn't arrive somewhere on time or goes outside set "play zones".

It also displays children's whereabouts to help the parent find them, should they deviate from their scheduled trip.

"Many Australian parents are reluctant these days to let their children walk or ride places on their own," Bruce explains.

"Amego should give them the peace of mind to give their kids some independence."

Appfactory director Daniel McKinnon says the tool is a "silent, trusty" way for parents to have peace of mind when their kids are out and about.

It's all about allowing "kids to be kids again", the app rationale states.
