Rescue crews will scale back to the search for a fisherman who was reported missing in waters off the Sunshine Coast over the weekend.

The search was sparked after the 43-year-old man failed to return from his solo fishing trip near Mooloolaba on Sunday.

His Cruise Craft Regal 2000 was found abandoned about two nautical miles off Comboyuro Point on the top on Moreton Island.
