"There was a really large halo of flames and smoke."

The Mudgeeraba home was engulfed in flames by the time emergency crews arrived. 9NEWS

Firefighters arrived just after 7.30pm, but little could be done to save the family's lifetime's worth of possessions inside.

"It was fully involved when we got here so we had to get the boys straight onto it and managed to quell it quite quickly," Andrew Hassle from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said.

Michael Bryden and his daughter Jasmine were home at the time of the blaze.

Neighbours told 9NEWS they were alerted to the blaze when they heard explosions. 9NEWS

Today, Jasmine took to social media asking for prayers and thanking everyone for their support.

Her younger sister, who also lived at the home, returned today to discover what little was left.

Police are not treating the fire as suspicious. It is believed a candle in a bedroom could be to blame.
