After allegedly fleeing the scene, the driver’s getaway was short-lived, with police dogs tracking him down in Surfers Paradise.

“We heard lots of Tasers fired as well, but the dog got him on the ground pretty good,” witness Judy Smith said.

Police say the 31-year-old was behind the wheel of a Toyota Hilux and driving erratically along the Esplanade, about 9pm, when the incident occurred.

He’s accused of striking a pedestrian and pinning a 40-year-old event security guard beneath the ute, before deliberately ramming the metal gates of the supercars’ arena.

“There were a lot of police in the area last night. There were sirens everywhere,” Smith said.

Witnesses attempted to perform a citizen’s arrest, but the 31-year-old driver allegedly fled, hiding in a nearby garden bed until the dog squad sniffed him out.

He was taken to hospital under police guard to be treated for a dog bite.

The two alleged victims were also hospitalised including the security guard with a suspected broken foot and the pedestrian with a finger injury.

The driver is facing multiple charges and is due to face court next month.
