No sign of 'distressed swimmer' in Qld

Water police have found no trace of a swimmer who was reportedly spotted in distress off Redcliffe, north of Brisbane.

Officers have been searching waters off Margate after a woman reported seeing a distressed man about 500 metres offshore on Thursday.

She had been scanning the ocean with binoculars from her Woody Point home when she spotted him waving his arms and apparently struggling about 6.30pm.

A helicopter and search vessels found nothing on Thursday evening.

Another vessel sent out early on Friday also found nothing.
