A seven-year-old girl has been attacked by a dingo on K'gari in Queensland.

The girl was with her family waiting for the barge at Hook Point earlier today while her mother got out of the car to take photos.

The dingo approached the girl who became frightened and ran away.

The animal chased her and bit her on the thigh before onlookers came to her rescue and scared it away. 

Rangers are investigating and are attempting to find the animal responsible.

"The parents advised rangers that they would be taking their child for medical treatment once they returned to the mainland," a Queensland government spokesperson said in a statement.

"Visitors and residents on K'gari are reminded to be dingo safe and to keep children under constant supervision."
