Police work is a tough and often dangerous career and it commands a high salary.
The salary range of first-year police officers in Australia varies from state to state.
NSW Police recently offered its officers a "generational" pay deal, increasing the starting salary by 19 per cent.
It's a landmark deal which will see police in the state be offered the highest wage in the country.
But what do policemen and women in rest of Australia's states and territories get paid?

Tasmania Police
Tasmania Police officers have the lowest salaries in Australia.
Trainee officers are paid a base salary of $58,253.
This jumps up to $69,298 (plus 24 per cent if working on a 24-hour roster) for a level one officer, also known as a constable.
South Australia Police
Policemen and women in South Australia are offered a starting salary of $77,128 for a first-year constable.
The pay can reach a maximum of $92,259 before a promotion to senior constable.
Northern Territory Police
Northern Territory police officers receive a base salary of $79,675 in the first year after passing probation and graduating.
The salary range for a level one constable after a few years can reach $101,984.
Australian Federal Police (ACT)
The starting salary of a first-year AFP police officer in the ACT is $81,181.
New South Wales Police
Entry-level police officers in NSW will receive a 19 per cent pay increase over four years under a "generational" pay deal, with officers also able to work part-time.
The salary of a probationary constable will increase from $81,517 to $84,777 before rising to $97,206 by 2027.
This will make NSW police the highest-paying force in Australia.
Victoria Police
First constable officers in Victoria are paid a base salary of $82,728 (plus allowances).
Western Australia Police
Police officers in Western Australia are among the best-paid in the country.
Probationary constables are paid $83,544 for the first 18 months.This then jumps to $86,096 for a third-year constable.
Queensland Police
The starting salary of a first year constable in Queensland is $87,509 per year.
This comprises $72,322 and a 21 per cent "Operational Shift Allowance" (OSA), which is a fortnightly allowance paid to officers who participate in a two or three-shift roster over seven days per week.
