A WA police officer is recovering in hospital tonight, after allegedly being mowed down and dragged several metres under a stolen car.

The incident occurred as the policeman attempted to arrest two Perth teens, who were accused of a violent crime spree.

Midland detectives said the two boys broke into a Waterford home and stole the keys to a Toyota Prado station wagon about 9pm last night.

About an hour later, police sighted the allegedly stolen vehicle in Ellenbrook and pulled up beside the ute with their lights flashing.

The officer opened the door and told the driver to step out of the vehicle, when the driver allegedly accelerated abruptly and dragged the officer along the road for several metres.

Paramedics attended the scene shortly after to provide first aid to the injured police officer. He was later taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"Unfortunately, he's been admitted to hospital," Dave Flaherty from WA Police Union said.

"He's got some broken bones [but] thankfully it's not going to [be] life-threatening. But he's got a fair bit to get over."
