Police find body after search for missing Queensland woman

Police searching for a missing woman in far north Queensland have found a body.

The discovery comes as 34-year-old Ebony King was reported missing last Thursday.

She was last seen walking into the fast-flowing Wallaby Creek at Rossville, north of Cairns, during last week’s deluge.

She was reported missing when friends visited her home and discovered she had not returned.

Authorities launched a full-scale search last Friday.

A body was discovered about 4km north west of River Road Causeway by a member of the public yesterday.

Police believe the body belongs to a missing Rossville woman.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.

The region copped a drenching last month, with Cyclone Owen making landfall at the start of December.

It was followed by Cyclone Penny which hit Weipa with winds up to 110km/h and heavy rain on Tuesday afternoon - the worst cyclone the town's experienced in more than 20 years.

On Monday, a body was found several kilometres downstream from where a 28-year-old man went missing in Cairns on Saturday.

A local fisherman found the body but police are yet to confirm the identify.

Rowan Kahn is believed to have tried to cross floodwaters on Saturday. His clothes were found near Chinaman Creek.

Cyclone Penny is now heading southeast further away from the Queensland coast but is expected to turn west tomorrow.

The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts the weather system will weaken as it approaches the coast, but warns there is still the risk of it maintaining cyclone strength next week.
