Brothers charged after 78-year-old man allegedly assaulted in Perth

Police have charged two brothers after a 78-year-old was allegedly assaulted in Perth yesterday morning.

Herbert, a grandfather, was walking through a carpark on Cockleshell Brace in Jindalee about 3am on Friday when he was allegedly pushed over by two men.

The pair then allegedly kicked and punched him while he lay on the ground, which was captured on nearby CCTV.

Alex Dower, 22, and his brother Brandon Dower, 21, faced Perth Magistrates court today, accused of the alleged assault.

According to WA police, the brothers fled the scene in a vehicle.

A witness to the alleged assault recounted the man's injuries.

"He had a very bad black eye, with a lot of blood," witness Stephen Radford told 9News.

"Blood all over his whole face, the whole lot."

Police said the grandfather and two younger men were not known to each other.

The 78-year-old was taken to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment of serious injuries to his head and face.

Police arrested the two men late yesterday afternoon.

Today they were charged with causing bodily harm, with intent to harm and appeared in court.
