Police probe links between two men shot and suspicious house fire in Sydney

Authorities are investigating whether the mysterious shootings of two men in south-west Sydney are linked to a suspicious house fire overnight.

Police were called to a shop in Claymore about 9.30am today, where a man suffering injuries to his shoulder sought medical help.

Shortly later, police received another call that a man was found with gunshot wounds to his head and shoulder at the nearby Highfield Park on Proctor Way.

Both men were treated by paramedics before they were taken to hospital in unknown conditions.

Police have established a crime scene and begun investigations in what they believe is a targeted attack.

"This type of senseless violence has major consequences," Superintendent Grant Healey said at a press conference today.

"This reckless disregard for everybody's safety, police will investigate and put those people before the courts."

Police are searching for two men described as Pacific Islander or Maori in appearance in relation to the alleged shooting and have asked anyone with information to please come forward.

Healey said police are investigating whether the incident is linked to an alleged assault and suspicious house fire in the south-west suburb of Minto last night.

"We've got information that makes us think they might be linked," he said.

A 53-year-old man living at the home had gone outside when an unknown person allegedly hit him with an object about 11pm.

Two men are believed to have then deliberately lit the house on fire.

Two women, one aged in her 20s and another in her 60s, were inside the home at the time but escaped uninjured.

Healey noted that there were no indication of gang-related violence.
