Passenger death forces Qantas flight to divert

A Qantas flight was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Adelaide after a passenger died on board.

The early morning QF2 flight was travelling from London to Sydney via Singapore when a medical emergency occurred, a Qantas spokeswoman told nine.com.au.

Flight crew and a doctor travelling aboard battled to save the stricken female passenger.

The plane landed at Adelaide airport at about 4.30am.

"Our crew did everything they could, including helping perform CPR with a doctor who was on board, but unfortunately the passenger has passed away,” the spokeswoman said.

"Our thoughts are with the passenger's family."

The flight took off for Sydney at about 6am and landed there about two hours behind schedule.

A statement from South Australian police said officers are preparing a report for the coroner.

“At 3.30am on Friday 29 June, police were advised that a plane bound for Sydney was diverted to Adelaide, following the death of a woman from New South Wales.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.”
