A woman found guilty of the stabbing murder of her former lover's fiancee has had her conviction quashed and will face a new trial.

Manisha Patel, then 32, was jailed for at least 18 years in September 2015, after a NSW Supreme Court jury found her guilty of murdering Purvi Joshi.

Ms Joshi, who had moved to Australia from India to be with her fiance Niraj Dave, was stabbed to death in a Sydney unit in the early hours of July 30, 2013.

On Wednesday, the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal allowed Ms Patel's conviction challenge and ordered a retrial.
