The men, aged 20 and 25, were taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, one with a possible broken pelvis and the other with head injuries.

Police say the trio was crossing on a green pedestrian signal.

Officers are investigating whether the car was driven through a red light, Traffic Command's Acting Inspector Brett Samuel said.

The 37-year-old alleged driver, who was not injured in the crash, was initially charged with five offences including dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.

He has now also been charged with dangerous driving causing death.

The man's licence has been suspended and he is expected to face Penrith Local Court on February 25.
