Western Sydney to become tourism hot spot

A holiday park, a permanent outdoor music venue and two new major events could help western Sydney climb into the top three most-visited regions in NSW.

With more than 9.6 million visitors every year, the city's west currently ranks fourth behind Sydney's eastern suburbs, the north coast and the south coast.

But with two busloads of people moving into Parramatta weekly, the logistics of how residents and an increasing number of visitors will travel about focused minds at Thursday's western Sydney visitor economy conference.

Train, light rail and road links are planned as part of a $73 billion infrastructure funding commitment, Western Sydney Minister Stuart Ayres told AAP, insisting "we are very, very focused on servicing the needs of western Sydney".

The location of the holiday park and outdoor music venue are yet to be finalised but potential locations were discussed on Thursday.

Western Sydney Parklands is considered a possible location for the holiday park, as is the west side of the M7, Mr Ayres said.

The minister also reiterated the government was "absolutely committed" to moving the Powerhouse Museum to Parramatta.
