Two men have denied the shooting murder of a well-known NSW custom car builder, in a case said to involve bikie gangs.

In the NSW Supreme Court on Friday, John Richard Weston, 36, and Timothy Steven Rolfe, 31, pleaded not guilty to murdering Laurie Starling, 29, outside his West Gosford car restoration shop in July 2014.

The crown alleged there were suggestions of links to outlaw motorcycle gangs and Justice Peter Johnson set the trial down for January 30.
