Fire breaks out at popular Sydney pub, light rail shut down

Fire has broken out at a popular pub in Sydney's Surry Hills, with the street shut to light rail services as crews battled the blaze.

The Randwick and Kingsford light rail services were not running between Central and Moore Park earlier this afternoon after the fire at the Dove and Olive pub on Devonshire Street.

The fire has since been extinguished with no reported injuries, Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW said.

"(We) understand the fire was in a storage area or a plant room," he said.

"(The) fire has been extinguished.

"Firefighters are now working through to ensure there has been no fire extension in any concealed areas."

Dewberry said fire crews were also clearing the building of toxic smoke.

"Traffic is impacted, the light rail has also been shut down on scene," he said.

"But we expect to get that traffic operating and the light rail going as soon as we can."

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are not yet known.
