Sydney train driver struck and injured by rocks

A train driver has been injured by rocks that were hurled at him in western Sydney early this morning.

It is believed the rocks were thrown at the train from an overpass near Rooty Hill station, smashing the window and injuring the driver.

The train came to a stop at Penrith station around 1am and a 42-year-old driver from St Clair was treated by paramedics at the scene.

He was taken to Nepean Hospital with injuries that are not considered serious.

Police continue to investigate the incident and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
