Sydney secluded beach closes for the day

A secluded beach in Sydney's eastern suburbs where a man was pulled from the water unconscious and died three days ago, will temporarily close for geological risk assessment.

The 27-year-old, who had reportedly been snorkelling, was hauled unconscious from the water onto nearby rocks by a fellow swimmer at Gordon's Bay, near Clovelly, on Monday afternoon.

Two off-duty lifesavers started CPR treatment but the man was unable to be revived and died at the scene, a NSW Surf Life Savings statement said.

There have been three deaths at Gordan's Bay since 2007, according to Surf Life Saving.

Randwick City Council said on Thursday contractors will undertake visual inspections and rope access work on the southern side of Gordon's Bay.

A council spokeswoman said the risk assessment is not related to Monday's death.

The beach will reopen on Saturday.
