An alleged Coconut Cartel kingpin linked to the deadly shooting of an 11-year-old boy in Sydney’s north-west has been arrested as he was trying to leave the country.

Police allege that 18-year-old Reece Fakhr was inside the Norwest unit when the boy was shot but left shortly after.

He was questioned by authorities but released without charge.

The 11-year-old was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after being shot in the chin and neck on September 21 inside a Norwest unit.

Later that week police confirmed he had died in hospital.

During investigations, authorities searched Fakhr’s phone after the teenager left it at the unit, where they allegedly found a series of encrypted messages between him and alleged offshore Coconut Cartel bosses Anthony Pele and Iziah Utai.

In the texts, he was allegedly helping them to contract out a series of underworld jobs in Sydney, including murder plots, kidnappings, and arson attacks.

Following the discovery, Taskforce Falcon detectives arrested Fakhr at Sydney Airport as he tried to fly out to South-East Asia on Tuesday afternoon.

The alleged key Coconut Cartel middleman was charged with 10 offences and refused bail in court on Wednesday. He will remain in custody until his next appearance in December.
