Sydney man charged over eight robberies

Police have charged a man accused of going on an armed robbery spree in Sydney's CBD over the past five weeks.

The 54-year-old, who was found with a replica gun in his bag on George Street on Sunday afternoon, was charged with eight armed robbery offences.

Police say the man occasionally wore a surgical mask during the robberies.

He was refused bail to appear before Central Local Court on Monday.
