Sydney GP rapist jailed for 16 years

A doctor has been jailed for 16-and-a-half years for sexually and indecently assaulting patients more than a dozen times at a Sydney clinic.

Sharif Fattah, 62, assaulted women who had presented with symptoms including rashes, coughs, bites, back and pelvic pain and vitamin deficiencies at the Sydney clinic during 2016.

The doctor, who was a general practitioner in New Zealand for 20 years, continues to deny his crimes.

A District Court jury in May found him guilty of 13 counts of sexual intercourse without consent and five counts of assault with act of indecency.

Each victim was aged 40 or younger.

Judge Sharon Harris on Friday set a minimum non-parole-period of 11 years, meaning that, with time served, Fattah won't be eligible for parole until October 2028.
