Shoplifting crackdown in Sydney

Dozens of people have been arrested during a crackdown on shoplifting in major retail areas in Sydney.

Operation Lightfingers was conducted at shops in the Sydney CBD, Broadway and Bondi Junction between Tuesday and Saturday, with police working closely with security and loss prevention staff to target retail theft and fraud.

Over the five days, 77 people were arrested in relation to 104 offences and more than $8130 in stolen goods was recovered.

Of those arrested, 21 will face court, 34 were issued with criminal infringement notices, 10 were issued with warnings and 12 juveniles received a formal youth caution.
