Runner dies after falling into path of car

A man has died after slipping and falling into the path of a vehicle as he ran along a road in Sydney's south.

Police say a 21-year-old man was running along Forest Road in Penshurst with a 17-year-old boy at about 7pm on Friday when he moved to run in the gutter to avoid an approaching utility.

Witnesses told police the man appeared to slip and fall, hitting the passenger side door of the utility.

The driver stopped to assist the man who was taken to St George Hospital, where he later died.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
