Changes will be made to Sydney's new Rozelle Interchange from tomorrow after commuters were this morning left confused and delayed for a third day in a row.

A car crash and an oil spill caused additional issues for commuters past the Iron Cove Bridge this morning, while traffic was backed up from Drummonyne to Habberfield as drivers attempted to navigate the new lanes on Victoria Road and the City West Link.

NSW Minister for Roads John Graham has urged commuters to be patient as commuters find their footing on the interchange.

The trucks from the Metro Dig and Western Harbour Tunnel builds were a major cause of traffic impacting the interchange, Graham said.  Nine

"I know it's had an impact, I know drivers have been frustrated and the government is very sympathetic to those [affected]," Graham said while addressing the media.

"It will take motorists a little while to adjust to it, it will take the road network to settle down."

The Minister announced that amendments will come into place tomorrow to help ease traffic, including diverting construction trucks away from the City West Link from 7am to 9.30am.

The trucks from the Metro Dig and Western Harbour Tunnel builds were a major cause of traffic impacting the interchange, Graham said.

He also acknowledged the Interchange's bottleneck points at Drummoyne approaching the Lane Cove Tunnel, and the West Link approaching the CBD.

An agreement has also been made with Transurban and Transport NSW to collect better data about what the worst issues are with the nearly 16-kilometre road network.

Graham said that despite congestion issues, there had been a 66 per cent increase in traffic using the Iron Cove link tunnel, easing traffic on Victoria Road.

He also said that travel time on the City West Link has dropped from 59 minutes to 44 minutes.

"It's still a long wait, I want to acknowledge that, but at this stage we do expect it to continue to improve over the coming days/weeks," Graham said.

Live traffic updates will be available to commuters in the coming weeks when the entire network is up and running, while updates to mapping tools, such as Google Maps, are expected in the same timeframe.
