Woman dies and schoolboy seriously injured after car hits pedestrian in Sydney's south

A woman has died and a schoolboy has been seriously injured after a collision between a car and a pedestrian in the southern Sydney suburb of Carlton. 

The 16-year-old was crossing Carlton Parade on foot just after 3.30pm yesterday, when he was struck by a car being driven by a 59-year-old woman. 

Her vehicle then slammed through a fence and she was thrown from her car. Despite the efforts of emergency services, she died at the scene.

The teenager was taken to St George Hospital in a serious condition. He is believed to have suffered facial and internal injuries. 

Police investigations are continuing.
