NSW woman found unconscious in her car

A woman has been found unconscious in her car following a serious assault in NSW's central west.

The 54-year-old was last seen walking to her vehicle in Bathurst on Thursday evening but was later found unconscious with serious head injuries, police say.

It's believed she was assaulted some time between 6pm and 10.45pm on Thursday.

She was taken to Bathurst Hospital but has since been airlifted to Sydney's Westmead Hospital.

Crime scene experts are examining the woman's car.
