NSW woman killed by tip truck
A woman who got out of a moving car on a busy highway near Wollongong died instantly when she was hit by a truck after several cars swerved to avoid her.
The woman, who was a passenger in the car and is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene after suffering serious injuries on the Princes Highway at Dapto just after 7.30am on Friday.
"(The car) was seen to swerve on the roadway and a short time later a female has left the vehicle and been hit by another vehicle and died immediately," Lake Illawarra Police Commander Superintendent Wayne Starling told the Illawarra Mercury.
He said several cars tried to avoid hitting the woman but the truck didn't have enough time.
The male truck driver and the car's driver were taken to hospital for mandatory testing, police said.
