Attempted murder accused says horror movies gave him a 'taste for blood'

A Sydney man who stabbed an elderly cab driver 13 times had watched six horror movies, including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th, in one day, a court has heard.

Luke Woods, 36, is accused of the attempted murder of taxi driver Neal Kent, then 71, who survived the December 2013 attack with wounds to his shoulder, head and hands.

In a police interview after the incident Woods said the violent movies gave him a "taste for blood" and made him feel like "murdering someone", Downing Centre District Court heard on Monday.

"They kind of give me the taste of blood I guess," the accused said of the movies in a police interview.

"Making me feel like ... murdering someone. Like poor Mr Kent there."

Woods has pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm but is on trial for attempted murder.
