NSW man still missing after crash

A man who disappeared after rolling his car on a NSW mid-north coast highway on Boxing Day is still missing despite extensive ground searches.

More than a week after John Shaw, 45, disappeared police have run out of leads.

Mr Shaw was last seen driving home from a family lunch in Taree on Christmas Day.

Police found his ute lying on its roof on the Oxley Highway near Mt Seaview, west of Port Macquarie, about 2.30am the following day.

Extensive land searches have so far been unsuccessful and are now being scaled back, but PolAir and dog squad searches are still being co-ordinated.

Sergeant David Walker, who has co-ordinated ground searches, said Mr Shaw's disappearance was a bit unusual in that it appeared he had walked off into the bush from the road.

The last lead came on New Year's Eve when personal items including clothes were found discarded west of the crash site, towards Gingers Creek.

Searches recommenced in that area but have so far been unsuccessful.

"He's more than likely disoriented considering the crash happened on a highway," Sgt Walker said.

"Having been involved in a couple of searches, you just don't know how people react following a crash."

Mr Shaw's family had been involved in some of the early searches along the Oxley Highway and visited the command post on January 2 for an update on the search.

"They're still holding out some hope I think," Sgt Walker said.

While no one is believed to have witnessed the crash, investigators have spoken to a number of witnesses who claim to have seen Mr Shaw on the road after the crash.

All but one of those sightings has been discounted.
